Trump White House Bars Politico From Air Force One, Escalating Attack on Press Access

The Trump White House barred Politico from Air Force One on October 5, preventing the outlet from serving as the scheduled print pool representative, Mediaite reported. That role involves sending reports to news organizations whose journalists cannot travel aboard the presidential aircraft.

The exclusion follows similar restrictions on CNN. According to Mediaite, CNN’s recent pool assignments went instead to LindellTV and Real America’s Voice.

Trump announced a broader White House ban against Politico, CNN and MS NOW on September 18, citing dissatisfaction with their coverage. A judge temporarily blocked that ban and restored access. Mediaite reported that Judge Timothy J. Kelly was scheduled to consider extending the block on Thursday, October 8.

Trump has argued that limited space aboard Air Force One distinguishes aircraft access from reporting at the White House.

Excluding an assigned pool reporter affects more than one newsroom: it disrupts the shared reporting system that helps the public follow the president. Rewarding friendly outlets while restricting critical ones makes presidential access a tool for shaping coverage.
